#Breastfeeding Diaries #You are not alone in this journey The Milk Ejection Reflex • This is the reflex that allows milk to be let down from the breast and flow out. It’s caused by a surge in oxytocin which causes a neurohormonal reflex.
•
This hormone and nerve response kicks in when your baby is sucking on the breast or you are around your baby and thinking about them.
•
Not all people will feel their let down and it’s a misconception that if you do feel it you have increased milk or if you don’t you don’t have enough milk.
Every person is different, if we was to ask 100 people what it means for them? …. We would get many different answers at many different times of the day or their journey in general.
•
Milk ejection may cause some discomfort for some and may feel like a hot tingly feeling for others. Some people have what’s described as a forceful let down whereby their let down is fast and baby may struggle with this.
•
If you ever have any concerns about your milk supply or let down then contact the people that will be able to help because worrying alone isn’t so helpful.
