C-section wound infection occurs after a Cesarean or C-section delivery at the site on the surgical incision. It generally results from a bacterial infection. Fever, swelling around the incision, redness, abdominal pain, etc. are a few of the common symptoms of C-section wound infection.
The risk of this infection increases with a few factors contributing to it like:
Diabetes
Obesity
Long term consumption of steroid containing medications
Prolonged labor or surgery
Previously undergone C-section deliveries
Amniotic fluid and fetal membrane infection during labor (chorioamnionitis)
Excess blood loss during delivery
Immunosuppressive disorder
Poor hygiene
Fewer doctor visits for check-ups
