Dr. Gupteshwar shiva shankar Mohapatra a.k.a. Dr. G.S.S. Mohapatra in short . Yes that is His name. He was my saviour that day. He was truly Lord Shiva incarnated for me on that day.

A flashback- As a junior resident during my first job at AMRI HOSPITAL, I had interacted with him. Little did I know that day that he was going to be such an important person of my life. And our first encounter was something like this-

Dr. G.S.S. sir- what's your name?

Me- Amrita

Dr. G.S.S. sir- Amrita what?

Me- I said actually its too long.

Dr. G.S.S sir- do you know me?

Me- no sir.

Dr. G.S.S. sir- I am dr. G.S.S. Mohapatra. My name is Gupteshwar shiva shankar Mohapatra. So, It couldn't be longer than mine.

Me- mine is Amrita Amrapali Mallik.

Dr. G.S.S sir- such a nice name. Y u r not saying it. those days parents had this fad of big fancy names. So we should be proud of our long beautiful names.

Me-yes sir! I ll tell from now on.

Dr. G.S.S. sir- so, update me on the patient details as soon as possible.

Me- yes sir, sure sir!
And then I met him on my first appointment with him after 2 years , when I confirmed with the two pink lines. He asked me if we have met earlier after reading my name. I narrated our first encounter and he recalled me. And my pregnancy journey began under his close supervision; during which I came to know him more.
He is the most well mannered and soft spoken doctor I have ever since.

He is always available at the clinic. And he is even more available on his WhatsApp for all his patients.

You don't have to rush to his clinic for a small thing. He will advice over phone easily.

I was already diagnosed with gestational diabetes. On a regular visit in the third trimester, my bp was raised. He started me on medications. I became worried. And three days later I was not feeling any better, so I went again. And the bp was rising. He adviced for an ultrasound. I was waiting for my number. And he sent senior resident who works with him to personally see the usg. Ultrasound confirmed all the suspicions of fetal distress.

Doctor had already left the hospital as it was already post 5 pm. He was going to take his family out for dinner that night as it was his wife's birthday. But he rushed to the hospital, despite the heavy rains that day; to operate on me rather to save me and the baby. All the pre-operative procedures were done really fast. From the ultrasound bed to being on the OT table was in less than 30 minutes.
On the OT table I was seeing that bp was not falling at all; and then I heard Govind's first cry. He announced its a boy. And your boy chose my wife's birthday to take birth only.
That's how dedicated doctor's are! Even a doctor's family has to do a lot of sacrifice. They put their patient and the patient's well being above such important family dates/events.
I can never thank him and his wife enough for safely bringing my boy imto this world.
Happy doctor's day sir! My care hero! May God shower all his blessings on you and your family.
