Caring for Stitches after a; Normal Delivery.

Most mom's to be look for a vaginal birth or normal delivery unless they have been traumatized by others about the pain during labour. One very important thing to understand is a vaginal birth is far more comfortable and easy than a C section in many ways ( personal opinion). Healing, recovery and baby care is much better and faster. A lot of mom's to be are a also constantly concerned about the "tear" or "episotomy-the cut". This is done to ease the slip of the baby to the outside and avoid a tear that is random. A random tear is tough to stitch up and can tear again if too much pressure is applied. In case of an episotomy-the cut is done carefully by the doc and is more straight, easy to stitch.;

Some of us have endless questions on how to care for these stitches as it's a wet area.; We are constantly worried about an infection that can make matters worse. But truth is the vagina is capable of self healing and also keep the area free from infection unless your resistance to infection is low. You might be worried about passing motion , thinking that if you apply pressure you might rupture the stitches. So am gonna share my experience and few tips to help you go through a smooth healing time.;

But at point, when you feel uneasy and have a doubt meet your gynac.;

1. Constipation can be your biggest enemy, drink lots of water. It's a myth that drinking water can cause weight gain. Water is important both because your body is dehydrated and your a breastfeeding mom so baby's water is on you. Also eases digestion and bowel movement.;

2. Don't hold when you have an urge to pass potty, go and do it. Best way I followed, was having a stool softener that was suggested by my gynac exactly when I would start to feel the pressure. It helps a lot, keep stock of the syrup.;

3. Sometimes you might notice blood, don't panic. If your stitches rupture bleeding will be like a flow and not like drops....so calm down.;

4. Cleaning the area and application of ointment prescribed by gynac is very important. Don't skip this and yes the threads will fall at their own pace. Don't try to pull them or get them removed from someone at home.;

5. This trick of after was shared by the nurse who cared for me while in hospital. Am sharing it for all those who would like to follow. Hope you remember the "sisth bath", it's something similar.;
*** You will need need a adjustable table lamp stand, a 60W or 100W electric bulb. Antiseptic liquid, warm water, gauge or cotton and your ointment.;
***If you have a tub big enough to sit. Then fill the tub half full add the antiseptic liquid and sit in the tub for about 10mins. Later clean the area dry with gauge and set up the lamp stand with the electric bulb in a way to focus on the stitches area. Dab it dry and apply the ointment. You will need help, don't hesitate to ask. Make sure the light is not very close to your skin, but your able to feel the heat of the bulb..it's important you don't leave it for long...just about 10-12 mins should be enough. Incase you don't ve a big tub...in a mug of warm water add the antiseptic liquid. Using a cotton or gauge clean the area, dab it dry and apply the heat using the stand light bulb. Later apply the ointment. Repeat twice in a day.;

6. Avoid eating foods that cause constipation and or indigestion. Foods that are overly spicy can also cause uneasiness and discomfort while passing stool.;

7. Fruits and vegetables are best to help easy bowel movements apart from being a healthy option to junk during breastfeeding hunger pangs.;

8. If you have done kegels or breathing exercises during your pregnancy, it will be of great help to you now during passing potty. It eases stress on the pelvic floor muscles.;

Have a great Mommy time. Staying calm and eating healthy is the biggest trick to a happy pregnancy and happy mom time. #mumma _aaru #momssaga #dietmantra #forthemommy #toddlersbuddy #pregnancy #postpartumcare #bbcreatorsclub #beingmommy
