*Constipation in kids*

Constipation is a common condition in babies. A constipated child has infrequent bowel movements or hard, dry stools. Atleast once every baby gets constipated. Change in food habits, traveling, change in activities all end up in constipation.
Fortunately, most cases of constipation in children are temporary.

If ever your baby got constipated, please do comment and share your experience.

SYMPTOMS

Signs and symptoms of constipation in children may include:

1. Less than three bowel movements a week
2. Bowel movements that are hard, dry and difficult to pass
3. Pain while having a bowel movement
4. Stomach pain
5. Blood on the surface of hard stool

PREVENTING MEASURES

1. Offer your child high-fiber foods.
Always remember to add fibre rich food in babies diet. Fruits, vegetables and cereals are must inclusionsin babies diet. If you haven’t yet included these in baby’s diet, start by introducing small quantity and slowly increase the quantity.

2. Encourage your child to drink plenty of fluids.
Water is often the best. You can also give fruit juices. During summer, water intake should be taken care.

3. Promote physical activity.
Regular physical activity helps stimulate normal bowel function.

4. Create a toilet routine.
Regularly set aside time after meals for your child to use the toilet.

5. Be supportive.
If they take too much time or don’t cooperate in the first trials please don’t lose your calm. It takes time. And never ever scold them for not following the toilet rules.
