“Last year, one evening I got a call from my aunt who said, ‘There’s a guy who likes your Mom.’ I was excited. I loved the idea of Maa finding love again. Because after Papa’s death, Maa moved to Nani’s house and I grew up there. I was just 2 and Maa was 25. Everyone would say, ‘You should remarry.’ But she refused. She’d say, ‘I’ll find love, but my daughter won’t find a father.’ And she dedicated her entire life to raising me. She worked as a teacher and gave me all that she could. So when I grew up, I decided it was my turn to look after her. And now that I had that chance, I wasn’t going to back down. So, a few months later, I visited her and that’s when she told me she’d joined a music app and that's where she met Swapan. He was a fan of her singing and they’d become friends. I could tell that she liked talking to him. But she was hesitant to open her heart to love. I eased her mind, ‘Your life isn’t over, give him a chance.’ And a few months later in October, she said, ‘I like him too.’I was happy and nervous, both. But it all vanished the moment I spoke to him. He said, ‘I’ll keep her happy.’ There was something very calming about him. I knew they’d be happy. So, after both the families met, the wedding preparations began. Maa wanted a small wedding but I went all out–I went to Guwahati for her wedding shopping and made sure all the rituals were performed. I remember on the day of her wedding, Maa was so nervous. She even felt embarrassed wearing the red saree, but I wasn’t having any of it. And when she was finally ready, I couldn’t take my eyes off of her. I placed a small tikka behind her ear and we even cried. After all the rituals were done, Swapan came to me and said, ‘You’ll always be her priority.’ We smiled and gave each other a hug. It’s been 9 months since they got married, and now every time I talk to Maa I can hear that happiness through her voice. You know, three months back, all of us went to Shillong. And as we were exploring the streets eating, shopping, I realised that Maa found a partner and I too, found a Dad. Maa’s happier now and that makes me the happiest. The family we’d always craved for? We finally have it!”
