exceptionally proud of my round Vadai. used udad dal, ground it with chillies, ginger salt and asafoetida. then mixed a pinch of baking soda and a tablespoon of rice flour. then beat it well to aerate it and fried by shaping with hand. they turned out heavenly!!

wow...I use the same recipe but I add lil onion and never used baking soda....I just leave the batter for an hour before cooking and it comes yummy&#128523;
