Fasting during pregnancy is suggested to be avoided by experts as it can prove harmful to you as well as your growing fetus. The nutrient deficiency caused during a fast can lead to pregnancy and birth complications/defects. Especially, fasting is a big “no-no” for women who have gestational diabetes or existing diabetes condition, as maintaining the blood sugar during fasting becomes extremely tricky.
But fasting during Ramadan is a personal choice after all. Besides taking utmost care and rest during the day when fasting, pregnant women who decide to fast during Ramadan should keep a few things in mind when they fast and break their fast.
Take in plenty of fluid in the morning (suhoor) and when breaking the fast (iftar) to reduce dehydration.
When breaking the fast add protein and energy-rich foods like eggs, lean meat, cereals, beans, whole bread, etc. Additionally add foods that are rich in iron, vitamins, and other nutrients like nuts, seeds, grains, fruits, and veggies to your meal.
When having nuts avoid excess consumption of salted nuts prefer having unsalted nuts instead. Avoid excess sugar intake through foods and fluids, excess spices, as well as, half-cooked or uncooked foods like meat, and eggs as they increase the risk of pregnancy and birth complications when consumed.
It's always a good idea to eat a balanced and adequate meal even when breaking the fast.
Nothing too much, Nothing too less!!!
Advice: Fasting should be avoided during pregnancy but in case you choose to do so always consult your doctor before deciding on the same. #ramadan#tipstofast#womenhealth#pregnancyhealth#seemasays
