As I told in earlier post, it was on 6th September, we got engaged. Yeah, 4 years ago on the same day. It’s really great to recollect all those engagement memories on this engagement anniversary day🥰
As per Kerala hindu custom, engagement function is hosted by bride’s family. We’ll consult astrologer for auspicious time for the engagement. The groom’s family enters the function at that prescribed time. Engagement is the day for announcing the marriage date. So an elderly member of the bride’s family announces the marriage date and seeks permission from everyone gathered to proceed further. Then bride’s maternal uncle exchange bride’s horoscope to groom’s maternal uncle and both the horoscopes are tied together, symbolising both bride and groom will be united here after. Then it’s the time for ring exchange. As the rings are exchanged, sister in law gives sweets and then distribute to all the guests gathered. Then mother in law gives the bride a jwellery and invites her to the new family. This’s how Kerala hindu engagement is done. The guests disperse after the lunch.
Our wedding was decided on November 9th, two months after the engagement day.
The most happiest days of my life were those days, counting down the days to marriage. Those days filled with romance is the period I cherish lifelong.
After engagement it was really a hurry burry. Those two months were completely dedicated to shopping. From the minute things like safety pin to jwellery it was all my selection and it was all tiring because shopping was all day long process and almost every day of those two months i was busy shopping.
As per Kerala hindu custom, it’s groom who purchase bride’s wedding saree. And groom’s family purchases all the dress bride wears after marriage. Bride won’t take any dress from her home to groom’s home, symbolically saying it’s a new start and groom will be taking care of her thereafter. As me and renji lived in two different cities, 150 kilometres apart, shopping was really difficult. But I enjoyed all those days 😍🥰
And then soon it was November 9, our marriage day. Our marriage story and Kerala hindu marriage custom will be told in next post. Stay tuned #mommytakeover #yaachustories #googlemama #fourthpost
