Ingredients For outer covering 2 cups rice flour 1/4 tsp salt 1 tsp oil Few kesar strands Water
Ingredients for filling In a pan add 1 tsp oil. Then add chopped nuts like almonds, cashews and pistachios. Saute a bit till roasted. Then add 5-8 chopped dates and a small piece of jaggery. I have in end also added elaichi powder for flavor and raisins so that they don't burn. Mix it well. The yummy filling is ready. Let it cool to room temperature.
Method
1. In a pan heat 2 cups water. When it comes to boil, add salt and oil, kesar strands and mix well. 2. Add rice flour slowly and mix thoroughly to get a dough like consistency. Switch off gas and cover with lid and let it rest for 15 minutes. 3. Once dough is warm, knead it with little oil in hands. 4. Take small portions and either by hands or with a modak mould, give modak shape.
5. Fill with filling and close. Steam the modaks for 15-18 minutes. Yummy nutty buddy modaks are ready!! I am giving a picture of filling as have made today for our society Ganpatis welcome!!
