How to PROTECT your child from the DEADLY SMOG
The pitiable condition of Delhi’s air has made it difficult for the citizens to breathe fresh air. We are living with an AQI – Air Quality Index of over 1000. Air Quality Index is a number used by government agencies all over the world to signify the quality of air at any given location.
This is the;WORST SMOG in 17 YEARS! It is a PUBLIC HEALTH EMERGENCY.;As a measure to protect the children in Delhi, the government has closed all schools until 12thNovember’17.; There is NO IMMUNITY BUILT against Pollution. We keep on inhaling polluted air and IT KILLS GRADUALLY. It has really long-lasting effects on the health. Children breathe more air per breath than adults and this has increased the number of premature deaths. These particles are so small that they enter the lungs and the bloodstream and cause various chronic disorders and damage the lungs. Many people are of the opinion that by using a nebulizer, nasal drops, and inhaler, they will be able to decrease the effect of pollution but this is not true!;Nebulisation does not cure and is not a preventive measure against pollution. It will only help in treating the harmful effects of pollution, and this treatment needs to be carried on for an average of 2-3 months. Children can suffer from SERIOUS PROBLEMS and Disorders such as: Burning and itching sensation in the eyes
A cough, cold and chest infection
Breathlessness
Tuberculosis
Aggravated asthma
Prolonged headache
The Indian Pollution Control Association has issued a notice in public interest in which clear instructions are given regarding ways to avoid the polluted air and safeguarding our health. Most effective measures to decrease the effect of pollution, based on guidelines issued by Indian Pollution Control Association and Forum for Air Quality-INDIA MASK – When outdoors even for a few minutes, wear a good quality mask. Even pediatricians recommend the use of face masks to prevent respiratory infections in children. The only option available in the market is the;BodyGuard Anti-Pollution Face Mask.;We highly recommend this mask for kids.
Increase intake of vitamin C, vitamin E and beta-carotene, such as lemon, amla, mausami, guava). These are rich in antioxidants and help in increasing immunity.
Eat jaggery/gur to flush out pollutants from lungs; simple replace your processes sugar with jaggery in all your preparation or consume jaggery as it is.
Eat honey as it also improves your immunity. Grind some peppercorns and mix 1 tsp of this powder to 1 tsp of honey and eat it. This helps to clear to the lungs and decrease the effect of pollution.
Start your day with turmeric, ginger and tulsi juice.
Have fats with each meal (ghee, olive or coconut oil, flax seeds, walnut).
Apply ghee in each nostril so that your respiratory problems are reduced
Try to wash vegetables and fruits thoroughly as they also get polluted lying in open stands.
Have lots of plants in your surroundings so you get fresh oxygen. Plant some air purifying plants in your homes. These include aloe vera plant, snake plants, and lemongrass plant, palm, and tulsi since they are full of natural goodness and have a great fragrance, which helps to detox and purifies the air inside the house.
Cover your eyes with glasses or sunglasses when leaving the house.
First thing when you start your car is to open your windows and re-circulate indoor air to outdoor air for two minutes; it will help in dilution CO concentrations. CO is more dangerous and can cause fatal consequences. Also, run your car AC for some time in indoor circulation. Every car has ac Filters which reduce PM 2.5 substantially.;
Once you reach home, wash your hands and face with warm water and gargle with lukewarm water. Now drink at least 1 glass of lukewarm water.;
Use an;air Purifier in the home (only with Hepa, carbon & pre Filter); especially in the kids’ room, old age, sensitive population (who have respiratory problems) and pregnant ladies. One should install an air purifier in the car to purify the air in the car.;
Sprinkle water on your premises ;;/on road to settle down the pollutant
Following are the ways to reduce your Exposure: Suspend all your outdoor activities in early morning hours like running, jogging, cycling, gym and other sports. It is better to avoid all of the above from November to January, also you can check AQI at Sameer app and if It’s shows values lower than 300, than you can resume light activities and if it’s less than 200 healthy population can do all activities.
YOGA and other activities can be shifted to evening hours.
GYMs without any treatment or air purification system are more dangerous.
Don’t send your kids (less than 7-year-old) to school if AQI is higher than 350; ask School to suspend all outdoor movement and only allow kids to move out in afternoon hours
Do not use aggarbatti for these 3 months better to use ghee lamp
Do not sweep/mop in morning hours, it will re-suspend all settled particles in the air, so better to use wet mopping that too with warm water and add a pinch of baking soda in it.
Walking directly on the main road will lead to higher exposure so better walk on side lanes/footpaths.
Avoid burning anything in open or if someone is doing please raise an alarm or inform CPCB on their website
