Happy KarwaChauth, lovely ladies! 💕

.

I am often asked by people why do I fast on KarwaChauth especially coz I am married to a South Indian & there is no such tradition followed by them. I am also sometimes asked 'why to fast to express your love' or 'do you really believe in the Karwa Katha that talks about long life of hubby'? Infact last year I read a post on FB by an old friend who stated how Karwa Chauth is so anti-feminist & its strange to see educated women who call themselves feminist fast on this day.
Well, I fast on Karwa Chauth every year. None from my in laws side do. Infact they ask me it's ok if I don't fast too, but I still do it. Because I WANT TO and it's completely my CHOICE ! Talking about feminism, no where it tells you not to wish or pray for the long life of your hubby. #Feminism is all about 'equality' & also about 'choice'. If you don't believe in this tradition & you don't fast, it's your choice. If I believe in this & I fast, it's my choice. And that doesn't make any of us any less #feminist . [Ofcourse if you don't believe in it and are forced to fast, then it's a different case.]

.

Honestly, this is the only fast I observe in the entire year & I love the whole vibes. It's one day (yes one day, not the only day though) when I get to outrightly express my love for my hubby, wish for his good health & dress with all the 'solah-shringar' which I rarely do otherwise & I enjoy it whole-heartedly. I have been born & brought up in a Punjabi household where every festival is celebrated in full gusto, including this! I don't know how true is Karwa Katha, but I do know that if you sincerely pray for something with all your heart, it surely gets true. Now if you say why to pray only on this day, why not everyday? Well then let me ask you back, if we can pray everyday, then why not on this day too? 😊
I also know this fast is observed as per convenience in different communities, some do it totally without food & water, some do it only without food. The intent is to PRAY & NOT to PUNISH oneself. I too don't push myself beyond limit.
And oh, yesterday someone asked me if my hubby is fasting too. Well it's entirely his CHOICE ❤️
