Happy Rajo!
Its auspicious Raja sankranti today in odisha. Its a festival to welcome monsoon in the state for copious rains. Its the time of crop harvesting and worshipping nature, cleaning the plough worshipping mother earth. It is the traditional earth day celebration. For 3 days all farming activities are stopped. These 3 days people enjoy leisure and the nature. Women get dolled up withnew clothes, jewellery, make up, mehendi and alta. Women are on the swings and play a traditional games like puchi and kit-kit. Different traditional delicacies are savored upon. Beetle leaves or paan completes the fun of this festival. On this day all lips are stained red. Men play cards. Children play all indoor games like ludo chess and carom. Dance drama and singing competitions arealso organized. The whle event is called Rajo-maujo meaning Rajo fun.
