question
Hello beautiful mommies, My daughter is 6 months old, I’ve started with ragi malt, can you please guide me what other nutritious food I can give her in this stage? Can I give fruits ? Should everything be in purée form? Thanks in advance

Hi dear, u can start with fruit purees like banana, mango, steamed apple puree, cheeku puree etc.. then you could introduce veggie purees like pea puree, mashed potato, steamed carrot etc.. then move to watered down daal and mashed rice, no need to give dal water or rice water since breastmilk is thicker than that. Instead you could give watered down daal. Avoid salt and sugar for babies till one year. Slowly, introduce oats, daliya, pulav, finger foods like paneer cubes fried in ghee, potato wedges, steamed carrot, broccoli etc. Give roti, parathas, curd rice, khichdi, porridge, basically whatever you cook can be given, adjusting the spice levels. Let the baby have things in the natural form as much as possible. Encourage self feeding, babies like to eat themselves. Include them in the mealtimes. Give soups, juices as snacks or in between meals. Soon, baby will give cue about what they like. Then you can give food accordingly. By one year, babies should eat things in the same form as it's cooked. Purees should be weaned by 7 months. U can coarse mash the food if you like, but let the baby be familiar with textures so that they are not just habituated to purees. Also, breastfeeding on demand is necessary, till one year most of the baby's nutrition will come from breastmilk. Happy weaning 😊
