Dr. Shilpitha
hello...
Gaining weight is a positive and healthy sign that you are giving your baby what it needs to develop. You need not put on any weight in the first trimester, but in order for you to have a healthy baby, it is necessary for you to gain the normal pregnancy weight a total of 12- 13kgs over the course of 9months. If a mother gains less than 9kgs, then the baby is likely to be premature, small, and could suffer from growth retardation. There are two reasons for the weight gain during pregnancy: to nourish the developing foetus and to store up reserves for breastfeeding.
First trimester - 1.2- 1.5 kgs
Second trimester - 7- 8kgs
Third trimester - 3-4 kgs..
please talk to your doctor for the same...
