my daughter is 3 weeks old. since the beginning,I have trouble making her breast feed. so I have been feeding her pumped breast milk. even when she does breastfeed, she falls asleep and I have to wake her up. after some time of breastfeeding, she again becomes hungry and consumes the same amount of pumped milk that she would have consumed if I would not have breastfed her. it's like her brain doesn't even register that she had something.
Is it normal? and what is the solution to this? I try breastfeeding her 1-2 times everyday so that she has the habit but the situation is just not improving. pls help.

hi gargi.. it's normal.. r you feeding the expressed milk through bottle? if no then it's fine.. if yes then switch to spoon... initially babies don't latch properly... but keep trying.. once baby starts breastfeeding.. feed from one breast around 30 mins and then switch to other... then baby will b full... and small babies tend to sleep while feeding.. you will have to wake up... read this post by harneet..might help you.. http://app.babychakra.com/feedpost/7115<br>
keep trying baby will latch.

hi dear, everything you said is just normal baby behaviour... in the first two months, i used to say that i have been sitting on this chair for so long, i must have sprouted roots.. i would finish one feeding, baby would be sleeping, put him down, grab something to eat, and just as i would be about to put the first morsel in mouth-waaaaaaawwww(baby siren)..... time for next feed! now i know, all those sirens were not feeding demands, baby cries for a lot other things too, comforting, tummy ache, sleepiness, etc etc... milk is associated with comfort, so mostly baby will accept as many times as you offer. if baby is latching well, pees atleast 6-7 times from breastfeed, i would advise you to feed exclusively from breast.... after about 3 months this constant feeding becomes less.. so hang in there sister! 😊
