I use nipple butter for making my nipples soft and I don&rsquo;t have to wipe it off before feeding my baby. It&rsquo;s safe. I use The Moms co products . Its lanolin free and it keeps my nipple sooth.

In addition to what @616d9126ca67e40013aaf3e5 has mentioned, make sure baby is positioned correctly and latching is right. 
Wear cotton bras, and if possible remove the bra for a few hours in the day to let the nipple air.

May be they have become sore..is the baby feeding regularly from that only..you can use a nipple shield.. apply your own breast milk..ghee..it helps
