question
Hi everyone..I am a new Mom with an 8 day old baby girl. I have been told that we need to feed the baby every 2 hrs. The issue I am having is that baby wakes up every 3-4 hrs. Once awake I ensure breastfeeding for atleast 40 mins and sometimes a top up formula feed of 10 to 15 ml as required. Is this routine suitable for the baby or should I insist and wake baby up every 2hrs? How long do u need to breastfeed if done every 2 hrs....

Any advice with be welcome 😃

Hey anon.. feed baby on demand.. if baby is taking 40 min of feed and then sleeping for long.. then don't wake up the baby.. once baby is hungry they will automatically start showing signs like crying or wake up from sleep..

Hi Anon, yes, thats correct,i have faced this myself initially, itsbdifficult to 2 wake baby up. I would say,let the baby sleep but not more than 3 hrs at a stretch and latch the baby,if he is not eating, its okay. I guess, dics say this to establish moms milk supply,so instead, pump every 2.5 hrs . And still latch the baby when he is awake, make baby drink whatever you pumped in between. This way you might be able to take off the top formula feed. Because milk is demand and supply ,the more you latch the baby, the more your body will produce.h happy feeding!

Hi mommy<br> Absolutely fine, don&#8217;t wake ur baby up while sleeping, as their central nervous system grows better while sleeping. Also, feed on demand is a good rule, probably two to three hours intervals if awake. But the more you persuade the baby to feed, ur supply will go up and be more than enough for the baby. U suggest don't give formula milk so early and do u have any special reason for the same

Actually if the baby is not waking up after two hours then it means that the baby is full and then I don't think it is imp to wake him up after every 2 hrs..the mains thing is to feed the baby properly..
