hi i m 28 week pregnant..I don't have any pain nor any hardness in stomach..baby movements are fine .is it possible to have uterine contractions without pain..one gynae which is not mine.i visit her yesterday in emergency because I was not feeling baby movements at that moment.she said go for ultrasound and in report they wrote uterine contractions++.and asked me to admit immediately because I'm going into labour according to her..is it possible that ultrasound shows uterine contractions..she did not do any clinical examination..baby heartbeat is perfect..148bpm.pls doc advice on this

Thanks doctors for ur suggestions..I was observed regularly by my own doc for 2 days..no contractions,NST is fine,heartbeat is fine,no hardness of stomach..no pain..cervix lenght is 38mm..also she did pelvic exam and that was also perfect..

sometimes we do see a contraction in the scan.<br>
if the doc has said u r going into labor it may mean something more was seen on the scan.<br>
do not delay in getting a consult. hope ur fine. <u>tc</u>

Yes it is possible to assess uterine contractions on an ultrasound. What is important to note is if these contractions are having any effect on the cervix. Braxton Hicks contractions are normal in the third trimester but they do not affect the cervix and cause it to open. If the ultrasound shows funneling of the internal OS or short cervix then the doctor would want to admit you for pre term contractions. Please get a second opinion asap.

At this period, pregnancy will be characterized by the appearance of periodic contractions, which are called Braxton-Hicks contractions or training contractions. Usually, they don’t cause any pain and don’t last long.. so,, better to take a second opinion..
