Hi, my 2.5months lo isn't latching on my breast at all. It started few weeks back, when he got congestion in his nose, he refused to latch but I kept trying. But now he doesn't take the nipple at all!! Though I confess that he was never on bf exclusively as he was never satisfied with feed (my milk supply has been v low, and I had enquired on this forum earlier as well). Is there any way to re-latch him? Also, if I pump milk - how many times should I do and will pumping lone match his sucking and help in more production? Pls advise. TIA

thank you; However, at this stage the baby doesn't stop crying if he is offered milk from a spoon. it would be really difficult to feed him with spoon or vati.

If you have been feeding him formula or even expressed breast milk using a bottle then that can cause nipple confusion and can cause a refusal by the baby to latch. You will need to start feeding by vati and spoon so that baby forgets the bottle. To increase milk supply frequent Stimulation is a must and a breast pump can be used for this. Yes in the initial few months a breast pump can be equally effective but in the long run the supply does reduce if you are only using the breast pump. The baby is much more efficient hence having the baby learn how to latch would be the best bet. Do see a Lactation counselor for support as this can take a while and you will need encouragement along the way.
