Anon do not worry there are lot of things like Growth spurts, teething problems, etc and they too go through lot of pain plus they are highly active and even 5 mins of sitting in one place is not accepted by them. My baby girl is 16 mo old and highly active, goes to play area twice a day and spends almost 3 to 4 hrs down with her nanny and I too take her down to shops, .markets everyday but still by 8.30 she will cry and be cranky till she sleeps. Introduce books, some game, or take him for a walk when he cries or give things like cut fruits, murmura to eat. It's a phase and they will settle down, till then hold on.
