Hii.. I have a week old baby who was born with a low birth weight.. The baby falls asleep during feeds and is always hungry.. What is the better way to breastfeed to ensure weight gain.. Should I be offering both breasts during the same feed (this is difficult since the baby can falls asleep) or should I offer only one breast at a time.

You will offer only 1 at a time, the other one on next feed. Don't worry about the hind milk part now, as you keep feeding you will understand everything, which breast to offer etc. Both of you need some time..

Baby's birth weight was 2.5kg but she lost 250 Gm in the first 5 days...<br>
Should I be offering both breasts during the same feed or change the side every 15 mins or so?

1. As your baby is just 1 week old and you said low birth weight you need to feed the baby every 2 hrs till the baby gains proper weight (you will know in the next visit to paediatrician) after that strictly follow feed on demand.
2. Common for the babies to sleep while feed but gently wake up. You can undress the baby or change the fan speed or AC temperature but wake up the baby.
3. New borns should take feed from 1 breast anywhere between 15 to 20 mins or maximum 25,if its exceeding 25 mins its clear that baby is dozing off.
4. Do not worry about the weight just trust your breast milk and keep feeding.
