If eclipe is visible from India, only then these things to be followed. Otherwise no impact. The reason for not stepping out of the house is the rays during that time are not healthy. Remember even science says to watch eclipse with a particular shades on your eyes. If water you can drink putting tulsi leaves, what is the harm in it.; We do not completely know the knowledge behind such rituals. Ans sciemce only discovers things one by one. Just because West doesn't adhere to it, doesn't mean we should also not stick to it. They anyways do not know half the things and keep discovering stuff which our culture already knows or does. So if you are comfortable, do it. Just do not go to extremes or harm urself like prolonged hours without eating

This is the piece I had done the last time there was a solar eclipse
A total solar eclipse is estimated to start at 9:15 pm today and will last till 2:34 am. The visibility of the eclipse will be mainly in the US where the entire country will experience the black out.
In India there are many myths surrounding the eclipse and this; can lead to a lot of confusion.
The advise handed out to pregnant moms is - don't step out of the house, don't eat and drink, don't use any instruments, don't use the bathroom, and so on. While some of them are very harmless some can actually cause some harm. For eg not using the bathroom for four hours can cause your bladder to get painfully tender and even breed a urinary infection. Not eating and drinking for an extended period can cause dehydration and fluctuations in sugar levels. Hence it is suggested to follow as per your instincts and not blindly. After all your health and your babys health is very important.
Sonali's Desk

The eclipse is a naturally occurring phenomenon of nature and it happens all over the world. No where else is the myth of pregnancy and grahan followed. It is very strongly rooted in our Indian culture and it may be very difficult for you to battle with your family. Just keep in mind that whatever they are asking you to follow as long as it does not harm you or the pregnancy then just do it. Some things can be very extreme for eg do not drink water or eat or visit the toilet which will surely cause harm and should be completely rejected.
