Protein is not a high requirement in the first trimester. It is essential but the quantity can easily be met with regular foods. The third trimester requirements at times are difficult for vegetarians. It is best to wait for a prescription before starting on a supplement.

My gynec would not let me take protein powder inspite of baby being low weight. He would encourage to take natural forms of protein like egg whites, chicken, moong sprouts, etc. I would eat plate loads of moong sprouts!!! (i vowed i would never touch them again till my next pregnancy!) If baby is normal weight then generally protein powders are not prescribed. You can ask your gynec for the proper advice...

Hi Reshma. Has your gynecologist prescribed this? Its always better to take natural source. That should be taken. Take eggs, chicken as well. In case your gynecologist has recommended then speak to her.
