Hi..My baby birth weight is 2.2kg. He is delivered 15 days prior to the due date which is normal delivery and we are discharged within 2 days without admission in NICU. After delivery my doctor sent the placenta for a test cause of low birth weight of my baby. In the test it came as there is little infection in placenta which might be the reason for the low birth weight of the baby.My question here is what could be the cause of placenta infection? Will it effect my baby's health in the future?

I'm not able to upload the pathology report here, but it is written as following:
Final Diagnosis:
Placenta (37 weeks, 271g):
Small for gestational age.
Peripheral foci of infarct noted.
Areas of acute chorionitis (stage 2 acute chorioamnionitis) seen.
Trivessel umbilical cord with mild acute funisitis.
Please help on this.

Hi..
Firstly- there are numerous kind of infections which affects placenta and causes so many problems.. if any histo pathological report is there post here..
Secondly- the most common type is Chorioamnionitis usually develops due to an infection. The infection can occur when bacteria that are normally present in the vagina ascend into the uterus, where the fetus is located. The amniotic fluid and placenta - as well as the baby - can become infected.
Have you done with C- RP test for baby.. if not pls do that..

The cause of placenta infection can only be told by the doctor I think. And I don’t think it will affect baby’s future health. Right @616d5a27c1b4770013bcb718 ?
