Hospital bag and newborn essentials... What, Why and When!!!

Hi everyone,
As I'm nearing my delivery date, and third trimester is almost here, I feel this sudden urge for nesting, which means basically we start preparing for the baby's arrival, by making space for them, planning their arrival, setting up a corner, arranging things for them, or just going on a cleaning spree.
My nesting phase began with me turning into a cleanliness freak, by decluttering stuff and making space for the baby, and now I'm just looking out for things that would go in the hospital bag, and what all would I actually need. Why so soon, you may ask.
Well, I have a toddler around this time, and I hardly get time to do things at leisure. Plus, my pregnancy brain makes sure I forget 80% of the stuff. So, the sooner the better!!!
Also this time around, I can safely exclaim that I have a tad bit better idea what I'm actually going to need for the baby once he/she arrives this time around... thanks to my Princess for it😄
Before packing up your bag, confirm with the hospital what are the things they are going to provide you in the hospital during your stay, and pack accordingly.
Here are my essentials that I actually needed in the hospital bag, and after baby's arrival, the same things would go in my hospital bag and shopping cart this time around too:-
🌀Things to be packed for the mommy:-

👣The very first thing I can think of to pack for myself, is a couple of packs of maternity pads for the postpartum bleeding. Last time around I was able to manage fine with xl overnight pads, but each Pregnancy is different. Stock up on the pads and keep them, first thing in the bag.

👣Front open nursing gowns!! These are soo important. Ofcourse, you might have to be in hospital gowns till your stay, but you can get them and keep. They are a lifesaver, and absolutely essential. For coming back from the hospital too, you will need a feeding friendly dress, front open one. Look out for options like these on your next shopping trip.

👣 Toiletries that you would use on daily basis, your toothbrush, toothpaste, soap/bodywash, bodylotion and things like that, you use on a daily basis should go into the hospital bag to avoid last minute rush.

👣A feeding bra. Yes, you won't feel like wearing one, but trust me, once the milk comes in, and the nipples become sore due to constant latching, you would need a support for the breasts. Plus, they will make it easier for you to feed the baby.

👣 A feeding apron/nursing wrap. There are a lot of varieties of these online and offline. You can get one that you like. It allows discreet feeding, and can double up as the baby cover after the baby sleeps.

👣Breast pads. Very important after the milk comes in. You will leak from the other breast when you feed baby from one side, or when the breasts are full, or when you just "think" about the baby. To avoid getting your dress smelling of milk and getting spoilt, get either disposable aur reusable breast pads for yourself.

👣 Comfortable pair of slippers to walk around in the hospital. Walking around? Where's the time you may ask. But it's important to walk around in the hospital, during your pains if you can, and between the feeding sessions to avoid constipation.

👣A bottle of water. Yes, it's very important. In many families they advise ladies who have recently delivered to not drink too much of water for numerous reasons. But ladies... Please drink water. It not just would help you protect from constipation, but also keep you hydrated, and aid in milk production. To those who say it will hamper your baby's health, don't listen to them. If you don't drink water, you won't produce enough milk. And that definitely would hamper your baby's health.

👣 Quick snacks to munch on during feeding sessions. I regret that I didn't carry anything with me. During feeding sessions, I was terribly hungry, and unable to eat properly since baby would feed almost every hour. Having some healthy snacks handy would ensure you stay satiated.

🌀Things to be needed for the baby in the hospital bag:-

👣A soft cotton towel/cloth to swaddle the baby. Blankets and all for extra layers, depending on the climate.

👣 Some families do not allow getting baby stuff before delivery, so you could either add these items in your cart and keep, or tell someone to get them after baby is born. Having a list will make things easier.

👣 Baby's clothes. Get jhabla style front open dresses for the baby, and depending on the weather the baby is going to be born, you can get dresses accordingly.

👣 Booties, caps and mittens, how so ever cute they look, baby won't be allowing them to be on his/her body for more than a couple of minutes. Best option is to get trousers with stitched booties in them, so that baby is unable to remove them.

👣 Newborn diapers, diaper rash cream and mild baby wipes... Very essential for clearing the first poop i.e. meconium.

👣 Langotis.... Lots of them. Newborn baby will pee or poo after every feed. So you need to stock up on a lot of Langotis for the baby.

👣 Baby Toiletries like baby wash/soap, shampoo, massage oil, cream etc.

👣A burp cloth or washcloth for the burping session after the feed, and to wipe baby's mouth after each feed.

🌀 Things that I would need at home after coming back from the hospital:-

👣Breast pump. Although this wouldn't go in the hospital bag with me, but I have kept it where I'm able to get hold of it whenever I need. Babies won't have a sleep routine initially, and you would need rest. Plus, expressing milk every 2 hours ensures the milk supply would be good. And someone else can take charge of feeding the baby your expressed breastmilk when you catch some much needed rest.

👣 Baby carrier. From where do I begin!!! It was a lifesaver for me to handle a colicky baby. Although I didn't have much idea about it earlier and got it Very late, this time around I'm prepared as I already have a newborn ergonomic carrier. It is helpful especially when you are living in a nuclear setup and have to handle things on your own.. putting the baby to sleep is easy if you have a carrier babywearing has its benefits too, which is a whole post in itself. But be sure to get an ergonomic carrier only.

👣 Baby bedding set, although it's not really too essential, but atleast get a mustard pillow for the baby to shape the head.

👣Baby rattles or toys that aren't too noisy and sharp. These are helpful in distracting the baby a lot.

👣Quick dry sheets/mattress protector for the bed. Since we should not keep baby in diapers all the time, and we love our mattress too, it's important to get these.

👣 Medicines, if any, prescribed by the doctor for the baby like vit D drops, colic drops, fever drops etc. And iron and calcium supplements for you, till you are breastfeeding.

So these are the things that I guess I will need after my LO arrives. Mommies, feel free too add something if you think I have missed out on.

Till we meet again 😊 #bbcreatorsclub
