yes it is necessary to give painless vaccines. one of the adjuvant components of the painful vaccines is known to trigger seizures so it is best to avoid it.

ok.. one more question... is it necessary that the baby be given painless vaccines to prevent the seizures from occurring... the paediatrician asked to give painless ones instead of normal ones... plz help...@dr.<u>saloni</u>

hi harpreet. neonatal seizures are due to many causes, usually the drug of choice is phenobarbital which is an antiepileptic drug. we try to taper the neonates of the medication as soon as we can so the protocol is to examine and investigate the child at 3 monthly intervals , if tests are normal it is tapered over two weeks if abnormal it is continued and child is examined every 3 months as mentioned. in correct doses it has minimal adverse outcome on the development of the child. for detailed discussion please contact your pediatrician.
