How often is quadruple marker test done in India?? I am 34 yrs old and have got high risk of trisomy 21, 1:172. What does tht mean?? What are the chances of this being an incorrect report?? Plz suggest.

Trisomy 21 (Down syndrome) is the most common karyotypic abnormality in live-born infants (1 per 800 live births) and is a leading cause of mental retardation. Sonographic findings in fetuses with Down syndrome include both structural abnormalities and nonstructural abnormalities or markers.. It has been identified women at risk of carrying a fetus with trisomy 21, including consideration of maternal age, biochemical markers, amniocentesis, and prenatal ultrasound.. an individual being at high risk for fetal Down syndrome when the risk of aneuploidy is 1/270 or greater, which is the mid-second-trimester prevalence for a 35-year-old woman.. hence, take your doctor opinion...
