How to help children with Language delays?
Language delay in children occurs when they experience problems while learning or saying new words. The condition is a communication disorder and often indicates that the child is learning a language but at a slower pace than other children of the same age.
Here are some of the tips that can help your child speak confidently.
Talk to your child as much as you about the general things. Start the conversation by asking questions. For example, ‘Can you see this beautiful flower? What colour is it?’
Read out the storybooks for your child. You may start with the board books and then gradually shift to picture books and short stories.
Avoid taking the help of electronic devices like smartphones, T.V. or computers. They create the monologues and the child doesn’t get any scope to interact.
If your child starts a conversation, let him/her speak and explain. Encourage them and praise them for their initiatives.
