Hugging makes us feel good. It increases the level of oxytocin which is a happy hormone. It will help uplift your mood immediately and make you feel calm and relaxed.
It has many positive effects on your child:-
**It’s a way you can connect with your child and make him feel secure. In our busy day and so many activities going around take out some time, stop doing everything and hug your baby, be connected with them in that moment.
**Try hugging your baby before you feel that a big meltdown is coming it will calm them and then you can avoid big tantrums and meltdowns. I personally find this very helpful when I feel that my baby is upset about something, the first thing I do is give her a hug and then talk to her about what she is feeling and help her be reassured that everything is ok.
**Hug them when they are sick, hold them in your arms and make them feel that you are there for them and it also helps improve their immune system. The premature babies in the nicu are given “kangaroo care”(skin to skin contact), which helps them gain weight and reduces breathing complication and helps improve their vitals.
**Have you observed that your toddler will come running to you and hug you, if they are afraid or upset about something. A hug makes them feel secure. Its their way to feel that everything is ok. Children find it hard to express their feelings, offering them a hug is the best way to give them the comfort they need.
** hugging leads to better emotional health, boost confidence and give your child a sense of security.
** it will help improve your parent-child bond.
So hug it away. What are you waiting for? go and give your child a big hug right now.
