hi hema, the baby will definitely find it difficult to hold onto more than the nipple because suckling needs some getting used to... hold your fore finger and middle finger in 'V' shape, palm facing towards your body, pull the areola with these two fingers into the mouth of the baby... till baby gets used to it, you will need to hold the nipple for baby during feedings... breastfeeding more often than not, requires quite a lot of practise for mum and baby... take care dear...

Also do not apply any medicinal ointments like TBac without prescription.

Please do not use a nipple shield. If baby gets used to it then it will be very difficult to let go. Every time before use it needs to be sterilised and that can be a process. Apply nip care ointment. And make sure that you work on your latch. The whole areola need not go in baby's mouth just a major portion.
