I just realised that even though it's been 9 years we have been together, still we don't have a good picture that can fully capture the essence of our relationship.

Meet her, my mommy in law. Technically she is Arjun's mother.
But the irony is that, she is one person who empowered me. She didn't have the best life, but she made sure I do.
Now dont even for a second think that we don't have our differences.
Oh! We so do. Difference of opinion, difference in priorities, in our outlook.
And not even for a second had she ever said, " Ja Neha jee le apni zindagi."
She taught me that home comes first. And so does husband and kids.
And making sure that the family is happy and well fed will only make me feel more empowered.
Yes, she made sure I had help at home. But also made sure I don't become a handicap and feel lost at the very absence of this help.
She hates the concept of domestication, be it me or her daughter.
But she also hates it when in the name of independence any of her children become selfish and rude.
.
.
Today when everyone is writing about independence day and being independent, I can proudly say that my mommy in law taught me what real independence is.
.
.
.
What does independence mean to you? And who has really taught you what being independent is ?
