I often hear from people that I am “blessed” to have an independent baby , but the honest answer is that it took a lot of hard work🔩, patience😅 and support👨‍ to encourage baby self-feeding. And by 14 months or so, she is now able to eat an entire meal – all by herself!;😍
This is how I encouraged Medha to self feed.
1. Messy baby.

Playing with food and throwing it is part of their learning process.

I always encouraged eating with hands..hope you know the reason (if not please see my previous post)

It's perfectly fine,if they make place messy.
2. Serving right food.

I introduced finger foods first and followed BLW method .

And don't forget to introduce soft boiled veggies, bite sized soft fruits or teething biscuits etc
3.We enjoy mealtimes together.

Baby M always keen to know what we eat and she observe and imitate how we eat.

So, we always show her how we chew our food and she tries to imitate like that😍.

We never taught her to eat with spoon, but surprisingly one day she grabbed spoon from the table and started trying to eat in that👀.

She has understood by observing us that this is what is to be done and she has learnt herself by practicing over and over again.
4. Getting right Utensils

Medha has a habit of playing with the utensils. so, I used basic suction cup and plates to avoid throwing them from the high chair.
5. No distraction

Right from the six months, we made sure she sat near to dining table for meal time.
Strict no to mobile phones and TV.
6. Babies love appreciation

Avoid showing your frustration when she dropped food all over herself or the floor.(it's very hard) Negative comments may discourage the child from trying altogether.

Don't forget to appreciate your babies if they had relatively mess free meal time.
Hope it will be helpful for you too...

Happy parenting
