question
I recently went for my PV (internal) exam and the doctor was unable to do it as I was very uncomfortable and it was really painful. She tried and then she said if she can’t do this, then normal delivery is not possible as it will be even more painful and I will have to go for c-sec. In my mind I am prepared for normal delivery and know that it will be very painful even with epidural. Is it true that if doc can’t do PV then I have to go for C sec? Also, is internal exam necessary?

Hi yes you is right, normal delivery is not cake walk you need to cooperate a lot. And internal check up nothing compared to vaginal delivery. Please make up your mind soon and stay positive.

Hi anon... Like @616fd972ade2a9001326872e mentioned yes an internal examination will give the doc an idea about what the condition of your cervix and is your baby in position... Only an internal examination can judge how long will it take for your delivery... An epidural is an anesthesia that will help and you won't feel any pain, I delivered thru an epidural anaesthesia itself, you will probably need to check with your doc again.... Or else they will take you for a C to avoid any complications during delivery. Also talk to your gynac about an epidural delivery

Hi anon, yes an internal checkup is necessary to find out many things like has the head of the baby settled, how much have you dilated, how long is it going to take approximately etc. And yes, normal delivery will be much more painful than the internal exam, no matter u take epidural or not. An epidural will also last for the time till it's time for you to push, and all the energy gets consumed there. Plus the pain is much more intense at that point. If the mother is unable to handle the pain, then doctors will assist in delivery by either a c section if it can be done, forceps delivery, vaccum delivery if the baby has descended down and c sec wouldn't be possible. Try practicing kegels, mild breathing exercises, they would help you manage the pain better. In my first delivery, I was supposed to be given epidural but I dilated very fast so the doctor denied telling if she gives it now, it will slow down the process. So, things like this may happen too. Trust yourself, and work according to what your body tells you. All the best 👍
