I would like to share a small experience of mine. This is being the first time I came to US in specific Alaska. Its a very beautiful place not much populated. Very good traffic rules. Clean street. I was quite happy seeing all this and realised if we all people of India become sincere our country will be more beautiful. But then god knows when will that happen at least I will try what I can do.
Cultural differences a lot. Here they raise their children as such a independent person and their children are not their liabilities. I met a lady she will be 51 well groomed looks a lot young to her age and IT consultant, her husband an professor retired from US air force looks very young to his age 53. The couple have 9 kids from 3 different marriage each. A very lovely couple. Except the big family with 2 daughter in law and 2 grand children they have 3 horses and 3 dogs. They go hiking, river rafting, trekking, camping but not always there kids accompany them. While talking I realized she did not speak much about her children even I was curious to know about them so I asked her. She just said they are good doing their studies staying at different places away from home. I asked her over the period we talked you didn't speak much about your kids why? She said they are my kids not my possession. I love them and they love me. But they have to go on and move on in their life. They not going to stay will him. But my pets won't leave me ever till I die.
She said I will leave a lot of possession for my kids but I won't stay with them. So they need to find their own way out in world. I said in India parents stay with kids. Kids are supposed to take their responsibilities. She asked me don't you have old age home. I said yes but only those people stay whose kids leave them alone. She said in US too they have but they choose it on there own to stay during old age.
I still couldn't agree with her. I know she is correct. So I convinced myself it is just the cultural difference not about being right or wrong.
