I am.using the nipcare cream as advised by my gynaecologist but my major problem seems to be a big areola and the baby cannot take the entire portion in..

If your nipples are hurting then most common cause is a shallow latch. Baby holding the nipple in the mouth and suckling does not mean he is latched well. He needs to be positioned well such that the lower portion of the aerola ( black circular portion around the nipple) goes in. It's a myth that pain will breastfeeding in the beginning is normal. Breastfeeding is never painful. U can apply Calendula pomade ( SBL ) for healing. Keep breast exposed as drying helps in healing. But most important , take help for correcting the latch.
