Impure during periods # isolating women during menstruation is age long practice followed in different parts of country and yes this is still prevelling . when periods starts women is isolated ,kept in secret room, not suppose to touch anything , not even go out. though we have come a long way as families are well educated today but this Iill practice is deeped inside our roots , it's very important for us to take all actions to educate people about mesutration that it's not impure rather nothing I'll about it. Our neighborhood Nepal has banned isloating lr discrimination of women during periods and this is surely a great move. I wish in our country also specially in rural areas and in some communities where this practice is going ...women are free from this discrimination .
Very good topic indeed but I guess we can't tag India or outside people for this discriminations it's our own old age family/community faiths which makes us untouchable for that particular period. Thankfully I have no such rituals or beliefs in my entire family as we don't believe in that even it's said that we can read holy scripts as well n even can make dishes for religious events also but seen some friends how they feel humiliated when they actually need more psychological support from female family members... isn't so embarrassing that all members (male as well) get to know what's happening? I agree about mood swings n for that we need more love n support not such isolation. How can they even think that it's impure....this monthly cycle makes us sure that we have the ability to be a Mother. Hope for a better tomorrow :)

very interesting topic! thankfully my family or in laws dont follow any sort of rules. neither do i. its so regressive to isolate women in this day and age. i hope india wakes up to truly being progressive soon!
