hello...
IPV is Inactivated (killed) virus vaccine or you call it Injectable Polio Vaccine.. IPV is more effective (=99% protection by 3 doses) and has less risk of side effects (no vaccine derived polio paralysis) as virus in vaccine is already killed. It is less heat sensitive. Weak point is that it does not provide local gut immunity as OPV.. Oral Polio Vaccine is a live attenuated vaccine, is to be given by mouth. Less immunogenic and therefore more doses are required(minimum 6). This needs efficient thermal protection. Vaccine virus may mutate sometime and cause polio paralysis in vaccinated child. Since this vaccine is given by mouth and proliferates in intestine, it provides excellent local protection. Moreover, when excreted in stool, it makes herd immunity by feco-oral route... In present days, sequencial use of IPV and OPV, to utilize collective advantages of both is recommended...
Infuture, if you get IPV's, then please get it done...

Hi Asmita, IPV is introduced to decrease the risks associated with OPV. in IPV, the polio virus is inactivated. There needs to be only one dosage of IPV. Recently, there was acute shortage of IPV vaccines. Did you try at the hospital you gave birth, or at the government hospitals or health care centers?
