India . . My beautiful beautiful India. I was home! Somewhere along the way, I also had my heart broken terribly!

Yes, I had a breakup but I wasn't going to let it break me. My parents are extremely resilient people. My father is very spiritual, a man of limited means, in my 31 years, I have never heard him say, "I want"

My mother very headstrong, very hard-working. She is rock solid!!
Never say never!

Even though I grew up in Punjab, I NEVER wanted to marry a Punjabi fukra! (Joy is as Punjabi as they can get and says, "main kissi jagah baad pahunchta hu, Meri personality mere se pehle hi pahunch jaati hai)
I honestly believe it was destiny that brought us together. We became great friends. Even though he was/is fukra. I love that he is not afraid to be who he is. At the very core, he is as Desi as they get. He is an electrical engineer and would work at project sites in small villages. In the evenings, he would work at the dhabha, why ? Because the dhabha waala was a great guy. So he would make tea for himself and the helpers there and help them maintain a register, decorate the dhabha.

Joy is . . Well joy! You just can't know him and not love him! On the outside, he is exactly what he is on the inside. Quirky!

So when he TOLD me very casually that we were getting married, I didn't say no because I couldn't say no! I couldn't get myself to break his heart. Five years later, I thank heavens I didn't say no. For it's been 7 years since I know him but I don't remember a single day where the two of us have not laughed together.
