Dear Moms, as Karva Chauth is coming which is consider one of the very auspicious days specially for married women, our pregnant moms are confused of keeping fast of Karva Chauth which is very obvious. So, I thought to pen down some point which may help them.

We have many festivals and occassions which intend to fast. Some are for month some for few days or for a day.

When it comes along pregnancy it creates so much confusions wheather its safe to fast or not..? Well, there is no accurate answer if fasting is safe for mother and the baby during the pregnancy. We all know during the pregnancy mother needs a perfect healthy diet which includes six basic nutrients; Carbohydrate, Protein, Vitamins, Fat,Minerals and Water. While pregnancy your body need to be hydrated always. You should have small meals in every 2/3 hours intervals to get proper nutrition to you and also, it protect you from acidity which is quite common in pregnancy.

Karva Chauth fast during pregnancy or in fact any kind of fasting is not advisable for pregnant women. This may lead to unnecessary complications and risk to the mother and the baby.

While carrying a life inside we need to think every pros and cons before taking any action so applying to fasts as well. #Few things should keep in mind when fasting in pregnancy : 1. Consult your gynecologist first:

Before going ahead ask your doctor. He/she will give you your health report and your medical history and tell you if your body is able to bear a day fast. If you are having any of the following issue you should avoid fast :

Diabetes, Blood-Pressure, gestational diabetes, severe acidity , anaemia etc.  because it will affect to your pregnancy. #If you are in good health and your pregnancy is going smooth then you can go ahead.

2. Go for Semi-Fast:

A complete fast in your 1st &3rd trimesters is not recommended as these periods consider as crucial periods. Fasting with no water no food from dawn to moon will dehydrate your body which can create complications to your pregnancy. Go on semi-fasting. Allow yourself to have fruits, juices ,Coconut water, lots of water at short intervals to keep yourself hyderated.

3.Eat before Sunrise: Karva Chauth fast during pregnancy can be started off with a good meal. Eat a nutritious meal including a glass of milk with 2 dates just before sunrise. It will help you get through the day and keep you  energetic.

4. No Tea/Caffeine:

Most of us having tea or coffee to break the fast which is not good at all as it  only increases acidity and cause uneasiness..so avoid it, instead have  fresh juices.

5. Stay relaxed:

Avoid any activities that will add to the stress of the fast during pregnancy. Try and stay relaxed and do not indulge in too much of work around the house. Engage yourself into lighter activities such as reading a book or music.

# If you feel weak, tired, headache, dizzy , uneasiness , severe cramps nausea contact your doctor immediately  and di not hesitate to break the fast. Good Luck !! Happy Karva Chauth! ! ☺
