Your postpartum recovery won't be just a few days. Fully recovering from pregnancy and childbirth can take months. While many women feel mostly recovered by 6-8 weeks, it may take longer than this to feel like yourself again. During this time, you may feel as though your body has turned against you. .The first 40 days after having a baby is traditionally known as la cuarentena, a time for new moms to rest, recover, and focus on breastfeeding while the women in their communities provide housekeeping and other support. Staying home to relax with your baby for a set amount of time—in most cultures, it's 30 to 40 days—allows your body time to recover (which they believe means a healthier body now and for decades to come) .
