Lesson 2- THE MATHS BEHIND FEEDING THE CORECT QUANTITY OF FORMULA MILK AT THE PERFECT TIME. Small and frequent feeding is the key to managing a refluxing baby.
If the baby is exclusively breast fed then follow the 2hourly feed routine for 10 minutes on each side.
If the baby is bottle fed then consult your pediatrician about the exact quantity of formula your baby needs as per his/her body weight. You can also calculate yourself as babies need 150ml/kg/day. So calculate the total quantity of feed for whole day like for eg for a 3 lg baby it is 3×150= 450 ml in 24 hours. If the baby is fed every 2 hours then for 12 feeds 450÷12= 37.5 ml per feed. As all formulas have a feeding table and a measuring cup which they advice to add 1 scoop of formula to 30 ml of water. So you have to prepare 60 ml of feed but feed only 40 ml to the baby. If u are using a bottle to feed the baby then pour only 40 ml in the bottle. If the baby is fed by paladei or spoon then keep 50 ml in the bowl as 5 to 10 ml may b lost while feeding the baby. ;As the baby starts gaining weight adequatley no need to worry, as now it is just a game of managing the refluxes and helping the baby to sleep undisturbed by the refluxes. Because sound sleep is also very important for the baby's growth and development too. But you have to know the baby's weight and recalculate the amount every 15 to 20 days.
