I wanted to write about this but good bappa himself asked us the idea for eco friendly celebration.

So I come from a very silent and sober city called Chennai (Atleast it was like that few years back), we celebrate everything with utter simplicity and enjoy it to the core, be in Pilaiyar Chathurthi (Ganpati), Deepavali, Christmas or Ramzan. We don't condemn if 4 am namaaz is read in speaker or midnight Christmas celebration at the church, nor do we crib if Ganapathi is taken to sea or pond for visarjan or 1000 wala crackers on Deepalwali because everything is done in moderation there. Pilaiyar Chathurthi gives me lot of memories because of the way its celebrated.

First the small statue is made of mud and decorated with local flower and paper umbrella (as a kid I have decorated at my frn's place) modak and sweets are made and gets over with Pooja. It will be there for 3 days and end of 3rd day visarjan is done at our own well, now then flat system so it's dumped in pond but again it's made up of mud and nothing else.

We lacked no happiness doing this. We keep it simple, Best eco friendly Ganpati is made of mud.
