Men can change stereotypes about fatherhood…
Men who are more involved in traditionally female care giving activities of childcare have stronger marriages. It might seem like an overwhelming task, but it really consists of practical steps and choices.
Men should embrace their role at home as a father and take parental leave when it is offered and required. Not only moms have the responsibilities of parenting.
I can change my child’s diapers where and when it is required. And I do. Regularly swapping out our baby's dirty diaper is the first step of claiming an equal share of childcare duties. It gives a father the opportunity to develop his own expertise, and that can extend other aspects of child-rearing, like organizing bath and bedtime rituals and serving up foods to the child. Me and my wife @vaibhavidipakrao , we both are working parents. And generally, Mothers are expected to attend doctor's appointments for sick children by taking leaves from their work. This helps create the perception that women are not as committed to their work. Fathers can play an important role here in changing this expectation by managing work and home equally with their partners. And Fathers should do. This isn't always easy to execute for me, yet. Though I might enjoy a fatherhood bonus at work, this benefit evaporates once I try to take a more active role in child care giving. Such perspective will only change when more men insist that taking on childcare responsibilities is not only the right thing to do, but also the best thing to do.
Don't believe the received wisdom that dads are largely incompetent parents.
Dads are no more clueless than mums. All parents learn as they go along, no matter what their gender – women are by no means inherently better at it than men.
Our parenting is shaped by our own upbringing to some extent - but our partner's childhood, the culture in which we raise our children, and our own weird theories on child rearing, all play a significant role. "We need men and women to work together if we’re going to reach gender equality in parenting journey." Kudos to all the dads who are enjoying an equal parenting.
