Gender EQUITY over EQUALITY

We claim to be contributing and moving towards a more gender equal society. With the increase in equal rights for women and amazing work done by the country as a whole, we have achieved a remarkable improvement in the safety of girl child. The rate of female foeticide has gone down drastically in past few years.

We are so busy making sure our girls are safe, that we have stopped paying attention towards our boys’ safety. This is the most overlooked agenda in my personal opinion. Male society is being physically and mentally abused, and no one is talking about it.

Being a new mother I happen to meet so many mothers including me who say I am ok with having two girl children but not two boy children. Why so?

Secondly, when the second time mother to be of a boy child is asked what do you want, in most of cases the reply is “oh I wish it’s a girl”. But similarly, if a mother of a girl child is asked the same question, a very few of them will actually say I want a boy. And mostly, it's due to the fear of being judged by the society.

I agree not everybody is blessed with a perfect set of a boy and a girl, but wishing for both is never wrong. An opportunity to experience motherhood with two different genders must be such a beautiful journey.

Have you ever wondered about the difference between equity and equality?

Gender equality would be giving both boys and girls the same rights, but gender equity would be giving them both what they need (be it different rights) to achieve to the SAME quality of life. Boys have their own importance and their own existence. When it comes to gender rights, I believe in equity and not equality. Yes we are moving towards a more equal society, but is it really equal if not equitable?

@Saroj to conceive a child. Try and observe your menstrual cycle, make sure the cycle is regular. Once this is done you can track your ovulation days, this can be done through an app or you can use the ovulation kit to check if you are ovulating. Try conceiving during those days.
