Why let them PRETEND PLAY

As parents we all have observed that children love to pretend play. They love to be doctors, chef, hairstylist, most favourite is being a mommy or teacher. Pretend play contributes development of key skills that are important for children’s success with peers

Here’s why you should encourage pretend play:

• Socially Active:
When pretend playing with their friends, a child learns to co-operate and compromise. This also encourages children to have conversations, which they enact by talking to their dolls and action figures and imagining responses.

• Develop command over Language:
You will listen a child speaking words or sentences you never knew they know. They speak to themselves or the doll without being conscious. Also By pretend playing with others, children begin to understand that words give them the power to re-enact a story and to organise play.

• Emotional Development:
Pretend play allows your child to express both positive and negative feelings. While playing a doctor they understand how sad it feels when someone is unwell. While playing a clown they feel how joyous it is to make others laugh.

• Problem Solving skill:
In pretend-play, children face a variety of problems to solve. Whether it’s two children who want to play the same role, or looking for the right material to use for a doll’s bed, children will use important thinking skills that they’ll use through their lives.

• Building of self Esteem:
Playing with action figures also helps build self-esteem, as any child can be a hero – just by pretending.
