Mommies, I have a two and half year old son, I give him the screen only when I have to feed him so that he is distracted, I want to completely do away with this habit now.. needed suggestions on ways to keep the child busy during meals.

Dear Salome, It can be tough to get a 2.5year old to sit in one place and make him/her eat. The transition from bottle to real food can be challenging. 1)To start the weaning off process try by keeping TV/phone on mute. Or start by turning it off after 5minutes or wait before you put it on as it's essential to increase the length of duration they can be without it before you suddenly take it away. 2)For a child under 3, a high chair is helpful. The child starts to associate it with eating and movement gets restricted and you don't have to keep running about. 3)Eat your meal alongside your baby. Try having at least one meal with your baby. 4)Please avoid use of devices while you are eating or feeding your child. As children model behaviour learned from parents so avoid usage of gadgets if you are trying to set an example it needs to begin with you. 5)I would suggest no screen time until your child is 3yrs and post that to have a limited time set. Establishing rules is key. 6)Please do not force feed your child. It's probably the worst thing one can do as a child develops negative associations toward food. 7)You need to develop positive interactions with your child so eating becomes more enjoyable instead of a task. Instead of using distractions or keeping the child busy try connecting with your toddler while eating. Talk about what you are eating, the colour, texture, size. Become creative with the presentation of the food. 8) Patience & small steps towards your goal will help.

I have the same problem. only difference is I have put my baby in high chair from.age of 1 yr. hence doesn't run around. the day I avoid screentime... we enjoy stories... counting coins... dismantling some stuff... drawing etc. I wasn't completely successful but glad it's much much better than before

hie dear. there are many options. you can tell a story making it all by urself, you can give him some beads to count on or edible play dough so that he can make small balls out of it.. or you can give him slate and chalk to draw something... u can have a talk with him regarding general knowledge questions or with alphabets n numbers.
