As a singer and musician myself, I understand how important and beneficial it is for a child to explore music. Be it listening to music or exploring music instruments. we all listen to music and hence our kids listen it too, but have you made a conscious attempt to give your child any music instruments to explore?
This is my son's music instruments box and he loves it. The pic doesn't show his piano and the real tabla, harmonium and tanpura.
At 2.6 years, with a song playing, he identifies and tells us which Instrument is playing, he can identify flute, tabla, dholak, manjeera, guitar, harmonium, sitar, mouth organ when he listens to any of them in a some playing. And this is because he has been exploring the instruments for quite some time. It develops their sense of hearing too apart from many other benefits music and music Instruments have.
some pointers for buying music instruments for kids -
- don't buy those toy-like plastic ones. they do not stimulate the senses properly.

- don't but those battery operated drums or something similar. it is a noise rather than an instrument

- hunt for child sized versions

- keep them as real-like as possible to derive the maximum benefit

Now I would like to know what Instruments have you exposed to your children :) and from what age?
