During my initial days of motherhood, one of the biggest challenges that I faced was Breastfeeding. When I started my breastfeeding journey with twins, I found myself believing in various myths that I heard from people around. MYTHS
1. Exclusively Breastfeeding Twins is impossible
2. Both the kids will never feel full. One of them will always stay hungry.
3. You would not be able to produce enough milk to match the requirement of both the kids.
4. Even if you breastfeed both, the one who feeds first or longer would take away all the nutrients leaving none for the other.
5. Since they are below the average birth weight, they need extra supplements, nutrients to catch up on the weight. For a first time mom, these myths can be daunting. It took me some time to understand that these are just myths and the only real fact is that the ‘breast milk is the best for the baby’. Here are the FACTS that I could discover
1..Every child needs only exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months, even if the child is premature or underweight.
2. A lactating mother’s breast is never empty and will keep producing milk. Infact the more she feeds, the more she will produce.
3. Whether the child is getting proper feed or not can be measured by the number of times he/she pees. If the pee count is above 8 a day, then the child's intake is sufficient.
4. Be it twins or triplets, kids will drink as per their requirement.
5. Exclusive Breastfeeding Twins is very much possible I thankfully relied upon all the reliable sources that could help me bust these myths and understand the need and importance of breastfeeding my kids. What are some of the myths about breastfeeding that you have heard?
