My kids are now 19 months old. They are both off breastmilk. My son weaned off when he was 16 months old and my daughter gave up when she turned 18 months. The entire weaning off process wasn't easy. For my son it all happened suddenly. Due to his health reasons I was advised by doctors to use femite gel to stop him from feeding and I did that. Later I felt that I made a mistake as it was a traumatic experience for him. He took a lot of time to adjust with this. Learning from my mistake, I did not repeat the same with my daughter and the transition was very smooth for her.
I am still judged by people around for not reaching the two years mark. My breastfeeding journey wasn't not too long, but it was beautiful and involved my best efforts.
I feel as much knowledge is required on breastfeeding, it is also required on weaning off techniques. That only helps a mom to make less mistakes and the entire process goes easy for the children.
How did you wean off your kids? Which technique worked for you?
